Install Microsoft 365 on Windows, Mac, Chromebook or Android

Uninstall the old version of Office

Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Find Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365, select it and choose Uninstall. Follow the prompts and restart Windows when requested.

If Office cannot be removed normally, use Microsoft's official uninstall instructions.

Download the Microsoft 365 installation package

Select the button below and wait for the ZIP file to finish downloading.

Extract the downloaded ZIP file

Open the Downloads folder. Right-click ms_office_365.zip and select Extract All. Windows will create a new folder with the same name. Open the newly created folder.

Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit installation folder

Double-click the appropriate 32-bit or 64-bit installation folder. Most modern Windows computers use 64-bit systems, so select the 64-bit folder unless you specifically require the 32-bit version.

Start the installation

Double-click start.bat. If Windows asks for permission, confirm only if you trust the downloaded package. Keep the window open and wait until the installation is complete.

Open Word and activate Microsoft 365

Open Microsoft Word and enter the username and password received by email for your order. If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to change the password the first time you sign in. Complete any remaining activation prompts.

Open Microsoft 365 in your browser

Open Safari, Chrome or another supported browser and select the button below to visit Microsoft 365.

Sign in with your Microsoft 365 account

Enter the Microsoft account, work account or school account linked to your Microsoft 365 subscription. If login details were supplied by email for your order, use those details and change the password if prompted during the first sign-in.

Download the Mac installer

After signing in, select Install and more → Install Microsoft 365 apps , and then select Install Office . Wait for the installer package to finish downloading.

If the installation option is not displayed, confirm that you are signed in with the correct licensed account or contact your Microsoft 365 administrator.

Open the downloaded installer package

Open Finder → Downloads and double-click the Microsoft Office installer file ending in .pkg. The filename may vary slightly.

Follow the macOS installation wizard

Select Continue, review the licence agreement, select Continue → Agree, and then choose Install. Keep the installer open while Microsoft 365 is copied to the Mac.

Authorise the installation

When macOS requests permission, enter the Mac administrator username and password or use Touch ID. Select Install Software and wait for the success message before closing the installer.

Open Word and activate Microsoft 365

Open Finder → Applications → Microsoft Word . Select Get Started or Sign in, then use the same Microsoft 365 account to activate Office. Complete any remaining on-screen prompts.

To keep Word or another Office application on the Dock, open it, Control-click its Dock icon, and choose Options → Keep in Dock.

Open Google Chrome

Connect the Chromebook to the internet and open the Chrome browser.

Open Microsoft 365

Select the button below to open Microsoft 365 in Chrome.

Sign in to your account

Sign in using the personal Microsoft account, work account or school account connected to your Microsoft 365 subscription.

Open the Chrome installation menu

Select Chrome's three-dot menu in the upper-right corner. Choose Cast, save and share → Install page as app .

Install the web app

Enter Microsoft 365 as the application name and select Install. If the installation option is not displayed, choose Cast, save and share → Create shortcut instead.

Open Microsoft 365 from the Launcher

Open the Chromebook Launcher and select Microsoft 365. For quicker access, right-click the icon and select Pin to shelf.

Prepare the Android device

Connect the phone or tablet to a reliable Wi-Fi network, open Google Play Store, and confirm that you can install or update apps.

Find the official Microsoft 365 app

Search Google Play for Microsoft 365 Copilot. Before installing, check that the publisher is Microsoft Corporation.

Install or update the app

Select Install and wait for the download to finish. If Google Play displays Update, install the latest version before continuing.

Open the app and sign in

Open Microsoft 365 Copilot and sign in with the personal Microsoft account, work account or school account linked to your Microsoft 365 subscription. If sign-in details were supplied by email for your order, use those details and change the password if prompted.

Complete the first-time setup

Follow the on-screen prompts and review each permission request. Allow access to files, photos, camera or notifications only when you need that feature. Skip optional purchase offers if your account already has the required Microsoft 365 licence.

Install individual Microsoft apps if preferred

You can also install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive or OneNote separately from Google Play. Confirm that each app is published by Microsoft Corporation, then sign in with the same Microsoft 365 account.

Open a file and confirm your account

Create or open a Word document, Excel workbook or PowerPoint presentation. Check the profile or account area to confirm that the correct Microsoft 365 account is signed in and that your subscription features are available.
